Course Description

Falls remain a leading cause of serious injuries and fatalities in construction, making compliance with fall protection regulations critical for worker safety. This course introduces learners to fall hazards and regulatory requirements specific to construction work performed in California, based on both California and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Participants will learn to identify fall hazards, determine protection system requirements, and understand the roles of Competent and Qualified Persons.

The course covers Cal/OSHA Title 8 requirements for fall protection systems, inspections, rescue planning, and employer responsibilities. By integrating fall protection into project planning rather than addressing it reactively, construction professionals can prevent injuries and ensure regulatory compliance.

Describe federal OSHA and Cal/OSHA fall protection requirements.
Identify fall hazards and exposures and determine where passive and active fall protection systems are required.

Biography

Dan Hannan is an Environmental, Health and Safety professional of 28 years. Dan is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a designation awarded through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, as well as an OSHA-Authorized Outreach Trainer. Dan’s professional safety career began in 1990 in the public sector working for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA). Over the last 28 years Dan has provided professional EHS services to the oil and gas, construction, manufacturing, and ethanol industries. His work has included project safety management, compliance auditing, risk assessment, training and program development.
